Recently, the research team of the State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics (XIOPM) has made a new development in the field of attosecond optics by experimentally generating and measuring attosecond light pulses at 75 as, which is the latest development in the field of attosecond optics in China.

The attosecond light source is expected to reproduce the physical image of electron motion at the atomic scale within matter in "slow motion" by means of high-speed photography, thus revealing the electron dynamics with extremely high time resolution, providing a new research tool and important innovation opportunities for the development of physics, chemistry, biology, materials, information and other fields. The pursuit of shorter attosecond pulses has been an important direction in the development of attosecond optics.

Since its establishment in 2014, the XIOPM's attosecond team has persistently conducted in-depth research on attosecond pulse generation and measurement technology, and has made a series of important progresses.

In 2017, the reconstruction of attosecond beating by interference of two-photon transitions (RABBITT) was used to achieve a pulse width measurement of 282 as for the attosecond pulse sequence, and in 2019, an isolated attosecond pulse of 159 as was obtained using an independently developed high-energy-resolution attosecond streak camera. Recently, based on the existing research, the team continued to optimise the driving light pulse, optical selective gate and phase matching parameters during the generation of the attosecond pulses, and also optimised the parameters of the time-of-flight spectrometer in the attosecond streak camera, and obtained the measurement results of 75 as of attosecond light pulses by the inverse reconstruction algorithm on the basis of the successful attosecond pulse streak spectrum.

The research work has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China's major projects, the CAS Key Technology Talent Team and the CAS Western Young Scholars.

In view of the significant value of the attosecond light source in the future development of science and technology, the research team has accelerated the key technology research of the high-performance attosecond light source. This new progress in the generation and measurement of attosecond pulses will lay a good foundation for future research in attosecond optics in China.
